PEDTM: day twenty-seven: Obama!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Yay! I kinda wish he'd chosen Hils as VP, but I don't much care, as long as he wins and gets the goddamn Republicans out of office. Obama for President is definitely my happy for the day.

YES WE CAN.

They played "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger earlier, and you know I loved this song when it came out. It's only in the past few years that I learned it was apparently written about the guy's sister, and how he didn't want her to have sex. Sketchy sibling dynamics! My love, it is explained!

I posted a story last night!

Paul Newman and a Ride Home
Supernatural; Dean; g; 2,365 words
Five books Dean Winchester has read more than once.

I jokingly asked [info]amberlynne if I had to warn for spoilers for the books involved (The Runaway Bunny, Little Women, The Outsiders, and To Kill a Mockingbird), but I do think the story works better if you're familiar with the books, because it's more about their individual impact on Dean than it is about just love of books or reading in general, which I don't think is necessarily Dean's thing.

I was a little worried that, like the mixtape story, the story would end up more about me and books than it is about Dean and books, because I love all four of those books madly, but I think it worked out pretty well.

I am going to ramble on extensively now about this. Flee, if that does not interest you. otherwise, click the cut tag. )

The story makes me happy, which I guess is the whole point, and it seems to be making other people happy (well, in that way that they tell me they're crying, so, you know, score!). Thank you for the lovely comments, btw. I truly appreciate them and will get to answering them soonish.

House

A Jon Stewart repeat (for the DNC) wasn't on last night, have yet to figure out what is their schedule this week, so I flipped over to House M.D. Whoa, wth? After I stopped watching (middle S2) it seems to have mutated into fanfic. Crack fanfic.

I'm somewhat amused, but I could not watch the whole episode. Much the same thing that happens when I read crack fic.

PEDTM: day twenty-six: a/c

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Yes, today's happy is something ecologically unsound and economically unwise: air conditioning. It's hot again here, in the upper 90s, and I surely don't do well in heat. But my office has a/c, my car has a/c, and my bedroom has a/c, so I can manage. Better yet is the natural air conditioning of the fog, but it's pushed out to sea for a bit and not expected to move very far inland until the weekend. Till then, I'll go against my better instincts and turn on the air conditioning.

Wikipedia has an interesting little history of air conditioning. I say: bless you, Mr. Carrier!

Right after the vid Climbing Up The Walls we get Gone Again by [info]candle_beck.

I was having this conversation with [info]coffeejunkii last week, of how no matter how much I loved the vid, fic that went the same way, where incest sort of ends them, was not (usually) my thing.

It's taken me 6 tries to start reading Gone Again. I knew it was going to be good, but sheesh, this is not going anywhere near happy fic. It starts sort of 4 months after the morning after, and Dean is so screwed. I kept thinking about the last seconds of Climbing Up The Walls, on how Dean now views himself.

[please insert my sadface here]

deli.cio.us keeps on mentioning it, and [info]sunshineclouds recced it today or last night, so I jumped in (again) and I'm only at part one, but yeah, this is damn good. I'm bracing myself for major well written angst.

Thanks to [info]amberlynne for looking it over.

1. T-Rex does genderswap. Possibly with off-screen prison sex.

b. [info]devildoll shares adorable scans of l'il Superman and l'il Batman.

iii. Nathan Fillion to star as a novelist who helps police FIGHT CRIME in a midseason replacement show on ABC.

... I thought I had something else, but I guess not.

Words, phrases and ideas from the whole series except for Dial Tones and A Howling in the Factory Yard, which I am still rereading. And yes, these are behind cuts but are graphics-heavy posts. Comments welcome.

The Light that Slipped Through the Window

Bandom shenanigans galore )
I've been listening to This Is Ivy League this morning. They make me ridiculously blissful.

Two technical questions:

  1. Should I be concerned that my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop has taken to blinking an orange light at me? It's the one indicating that the laptop is plugged into a power source, and normally it's a steady green.

  2. Why the frell has Word at work decided that I want an arrow () when I hit CTRL+the right arrow key? What I really want is for the cursor to skip over the words to the right. CTRL+left arrow key still skips me back, and it is messing with my mouse-averse typing rhythm! Egads! Forsooth!

PEDTM: day twenty-five: tidiness

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Yes, my happy for today is tidiness. I'm a very tidy person and I get cranky when things are in disarray. I love having a place for everything and everything in its place. I'm kind of embarrassed by this aspect of me, but over the years I've given in and just tidy.

My husband, bless his heart, is not nearly as tidy as I am, though he is excellent at cleaning things up. He cleans, I tidy. It works out okay most of the time, but occasionally something will need to sit out for a while -- or so he claims -- and I start to go crazy, slowly and painfully crazy, until I have to hide it or insist he do whatever needs done so it can be put away. And he loves little notebooks; we have little notebooks everywhere. I regularly collect them and then rubberband them into a single pile.

I tidied today, and now I feel very content. How superficial of me, yes? but it's true. Tidiness makes me happy.
